Norwell Man Killed in Route 3 Crash

BROCKTON – A Norwell man who was a Randolph Police officer was killed in an early morning crash along Route 3 South, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. this morning, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office were contacted by Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Norwell regarding a fatal motor vehicle crash that had occurred on Route 3 South in the town of Hingham. An investigation commenced.

State Police reported that at approximately 6:20 a.m., they received several 911 calls reporting a two motor vehicle crash along Route 3 South. Members of the State Police and Hingham Fire Department arrived on scene and discovered a male victim in the roadway and his motor vehicle crashed and rested in the median. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene and has been identified as Michael Beal, 61, of Norwell.

A second vehicle was stationary in the breakdown lane of Route 3 South with heavy front end damage to the vehicle. The female operator was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was contacted and accepted jurisdiction of the case.

The investigation is active and ongoing by Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
