Brockton Man Pleads Guilty, Sentenced To State Prison In Fatal Stabbing

BROCKTON – With closing arguments in his trial expected to occur tomorrow, today a Brockton man pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing another man, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Today, in Plymouth Superior Court, Robert J. Savignano, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter. Judge William Sullivan sentenced Savignano to serve 7-10 years in state prison.   

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 2, 2021, Brockton Police received multiple 911 calls reporting an altercation at a residence at 158 Lisa Drive. Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded and found a male victim unresponsive and bleeding from multiple stab wounds. The male was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as James E. Jennette, 35, of Brockton. 

Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. The investigation found that an altercation took place between Jennette and Savignano, and Jennette was stabbed. The pair were roommates and resided together at the Lisa Drive home. 

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Sprague and Kevin O’Leary, and was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police.
