BROCKTON — Massachusetts State Police, Halifax Police, and Massachusetts Environmental Police are investigating the suspected drowning of an adult male after the canoe he was in capsized, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
At approximately 10:58 a.m.today, Halifax Police received a 911 call for a report of a capsized canoe with several people in the water at the boat ramp at 47 White Island Road in Halifax. Upon arrival, Halifax Police and Fire located three individuals, including one adult and two children, who had exited the water safely. A second adult was reported missing below the water’s surface.
Halifax first responders contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and an investigation commenced. Additionally, Halifax requested assistance from the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Dive Team, and several local fire departments.
At approximately 12:42 p.m., the dive team located the male victim. He was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He is not being identified at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
