BROCKTON – Two men have pleaded not guilty to charges for their role in connection with the murder of a man found dead in Abington, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Abington Police Chief John Bonney have announced.
This morning, 43-year-old Suzito Lopes of Quincy pleaded not guilty in Brockton District Court to one count of Murder. He was held without bail.
Antonio Lopes, 37, of Taunton, who turned himself in to Abington Police Department this morning, was arraigned this afternoon on one count each of Murder and Possessing a Firearm without a Firearm Identification Card. He pleaded not guilty and was additionally held without bail.
The charges stem from an incident on December 27, 2024. On that date, at 7:25 p.m., Abington Police received a call requesting that police perform a well-being check on the caller’s male relative living at 563 Plymouth Street. Upon arrival, Abington Police and emergency medical personnel located the male unresponsive in the backyard of the residence. Abington Fire personnel pronounced the male victim deceased on scene. He was identified as 43-year-old Anthony Leverone.
Abington Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and an investigation commenced. Preliminarily, it appears that Leverone died of blunt force trauma, and high impact injuries.
Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Abington Police conducted interviews with multiple people, reviewed surveillance video, and executed search warrants on several cell phones as part of the active investigation. As a result, they developed probable cause to arrest two men in connection with the crime.
The pair are next scheduled to appear in court on February 14.
