BROCKTON – State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office investigated 14 homicides and responded to 142 suspected fatal drug overdoses in 2015, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office responded to 14 homicides in Plymouth County in 2015. That number does not include motor vehicle homicides. Defendants have been charged in 11 of the 14 homicide cases.
“I am extremely proud of the work our State Police Detectives do every day,” DA Cruz said. “They work around the clock to solve these murders, investigate violent crimes, take guns and drugs off the street, and return a sense of safety and security to the community.”
State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office responded to 142 fatal suspected overdoses in towns and cities in Plymouth County, with 100 of the victims being male and 42 women. In 2014, State Police responded to a total 75 suspected fatal overdoses in the county for the year.
“The elevated number of fatal overdoses in Plymouth County unfortunately reflects the numbers being reported around the state and country,” DA Cruz said. “Opioids are causing tragedies everyday within our communities and everyone knows someone affected by this epidemic. Law enforcement will continue to work at combatting the issue on all levels in 2016.”
There are 62 Assistant District Attorneys who work in district courts in Brockton, Hingham, Plymouth and Wareham. Additionally, Assistant District Attorneys are assigned to the two Superior Courts in Brockton and Plymouth, where on January 4, 2016, a new Superior Court criminal session commenced.
