BROCKTON – A man found guilty of raping a 15-year-old female victim at a Rockland hotel being used as a migrant shelter has been sentenced to state prison, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Today, Cory B. Alvarez, now 27, was sentenced to serve 10-12 years in state prison. The Commonwealth recommended that Alvarez serve 15 to 18 years. On September 12, after a four-day trial in Plymouth Superior Court, a jury deliberated 5 ½ hours before finding Alvarez guilty of one count of Aggravated Rape of a Child with 10 Year Age Difference.

At approximately 7:06 p.m. on March 13, 2024, Rockland Police were dispatched to the Comfort Inn at 850 Hingham Street for a report of a sexual assault. At the time, the Comfort Inn was part of a state/federal program to provide housing and food for migrant families staying there. Alvarez resided at that address.

Upon arrival, Rockland Police encountered the 15-year-old female victim, who was then transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment. As a result of their investigation, Rockland Police developed probable cause to arrest Alvarez, and he was taken into custody.

At trial, jurors heard testimony that Alvarez’s DNA was located on the female victim.

“Our commitment to seeing this case through was, most importantly, about seeking justice on behalf of the child victim,” DA Cruz said. “It was also about ensuring that both the victim, and the defendant had their day in court. My thoughts remain with the child victim in this case, her father, and her family. With sentencing today, I hope that this family can find some closure.”

Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham, with the assistance of Victim Witness Advocate Carolyn Dixon, prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Rockland Police.
