BROCKTON – A woman has been killed in a house fire in Hanson, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey have announced.

At 9:11 p.m. last night, Hanson Police and Fire were notified of a residential structure fire with possible entrapment at 165 Pennsylvania Avenue. Upon arrival, Hanson Fire encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions and an occupant informed first responders that a family member had not exited the residence. Hanson Fire began extinguishing the fire and attempted to make a rescue but were unsuccessful due to the high heat and smoke conditions.

Police and fire officials on scene determined the deceased victim was resident Margaret O’Toole-Driscoll (DOB: 03/19/62). Hanson Police and Fire officials contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the State Marshal and an investigation commenced.

There were three other occupants living in the single family, cape style log cabin home at the time of the fire and they were able to safely escape.

The fire remains under investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, Hanson Police and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office. Preliminary investigative efforts indicate the fire is not considered to be suspicious and no foul play is suspected.
