Brockton Man Arraigned In Murder Of Father

BROCKTON – A Brockton man pleaded not guilty today to beating his father to death, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

In Brockton District Court today, Stephen Walcott Jr., 42, of Brockton, pleaded not guilty to one count of Murder. Judge Daniel Dilorati allowed the Commonwealth’s motion to revoke bail on an open case, and Walcott Jr. was held without bail on the new case.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. last night, East Bridgewater Police responded to a request for a well-being check at a home at 137 Cedar Street. Upon arrival, first responders located a male victim suffering from apparent head trauma. The victim, who lived in the home, was identified as 70 year-old Stephen Walcott Sr. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:05 p.m.

East Bridgewater Police contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Neighbors reported that a person driving a white sedan and matching the description of Walcott Jr., was seen at the home earlier in the afternoon. It was also determined that Walcott Jr. lived at 264 Boylston Street in Brockton, and owned a white Lincoln sedan. A BOLO was issued for the vehicle, and at approximately 7:30 p.m., Walcott Jr. arrived home in the vehicle and he was placed under arrest without incident. 

As a result of the investigation, detectives determined that Walcott Jr. arrived at Walcott Sr.’s East Bridgewater home around 5 p.m. yesterday, a verbal altercation ensued. Walcott Jr. beat his father about the head and face with his fists. He additionally took a dumbbell and struck Walcott Sr. in the back of the head, and also attempted to suffocate him.

Walcott Jr. is next scheduled to appear in court on March 8.
