BROCKTON – A Brockton mother and her son were in court today to face charges in connection with their roles in the murder of a Brockton man, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
On November 9, 2021, at approximately 1:36 a.m., Brockton Police responded to the area of 69 Tremont Street for a report of shots fired. Brockton Police arrived on scene and located a 2007 Mazda 3 parked in the middle of the road. Two male victims were found outside of the vehicle. One victim, Gregory Grantsis, 36, suffered a gunshot wound to the face, and the second male victim suffered from gunshot wounds to leg and torso. A third occupant of the vehicle was not shot. Grantsis was transported to the Brockton Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his wounds at 2:13 a.m. The second male victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police and an investigation commenced. As a result, investigators developed information and sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Shamallah Jones, 26. Jones was located at an address in Boston and placed under arrest without incident.
Massachusetts State Police sought and obtained an arrest warrant for 26 year-old Ashley Severino of Boston, and she was located and arrested.
Last Friday, a Plymouth County grand jury returned indictments charging Shamallah Jones, of Dorchester, with one count each of Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Firearm, Subsequent Offense, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID card. Severino was indicted on one count each of Accessory After the Fact (Murder) and Witness Intimidation.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, warrants issued for Rula Jones, 27, and his mother, Vanessa Jones, 55, of Brockton. Shamallah Jones, is also the son of Vanessa Jones. Yesterday, Rula Jones was located and arrested in Weymouth without incident. Vanessa Jones was arrested in Brockton.
Both Rula Jones and Vanessa Jones appeared in Brockton Superior Court today. Vanessa Jones was arraigned on one count of witness intimidation. She pleaded not guilty and was held on $2,000 cash bail. Rula Jones’ arraignment is scheduled for February 16, 2022. He was held without bail pending his next date in court.
