Investigation Ongoing Into Cause Of Fire In Carver That Killed A Man, Injured Another

BROCKTON – The investigation is ongoing into the cause of a fire in Carver that left one man dead and another injured, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

At approximately 10:59 p.m. last night, Carver Police received a 911 call reporting that the two-story home located at 222 Tremont Street was on fire. The caller further stated that one of home’s occupants had run outside the residence and reported that someone remained trapped inside the house.

Carver Police, Carver Fire, and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and encountered heavy fire. They were immediately alerted that a person was trapped inside and entered the home. Firefighters located the man on the first floor and he  was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 69 year-old James Collins.

The man who escaped the home was transported by ambulance to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth for treatment of his injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by the Carver Fire Department, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
