MA State Police, NH State Police, Manchester, NH Police and Brockton Police Arrest Man in New Hampshire for Homicide

BROCKTON — Massachusetts State Police, New Hampshire State Police, Manchester, N.H. Police, and Brockton Police have arrested a South Boston man for a fatal stabbing in Brockton, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

On August 23rd at approximately 9:51 p.m., officials from Good Samaritan Hospital notified Brockton Police that they had a stabbing victim come into the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Brockton Police responded and learned that the male victim was stabbed outside a gas station located at 81 Warren Avenue. Brockton Police responded to that address, secured the scene and contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section to investigate.

The victim was identified as Samuel Rutledge, 31, of Brockton. Through their investigation, detectives learned that Rutledge was involved in an altercation with Cody Urban, 23, of South Boston. Urban allegedly stabbed Rutledge, and then fled the scene in a white motor vehicle. Rutledge returned to his car and an acquaintance drove him to the hospital. Rutledge was pronounced dead at 10:36 p.m. on August 23rd.

On Tuesday, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Urban, charging him with one count each of Murder and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. At approximately 6:15 a.m. today, Massachusetts State Police, Brockton Police, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, along with Manchester, N.H. Police and New Hampshire State Police, located Urban in an apartment in Manchester, N.H. and he was placed under arrest.

Authorities have started the rendition process and Urban will be arraigned in Brockton District Court on the charges upon his return to Massachusetts.
